The Mechanical Engineer is primarily responsible for performing breakdown repairs and implements the preventive maintenance schedule of plant machinery and equipment, ensuring that all work is completed within industrial standards and codes.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MAINTENANCE OF PLANT MACHINERY AND FACILITIES  

•  Ensures that machines/equipment are working efficiently and in good state or condition
• Investigates mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems in the plant.  
• Installs, repairs and replaces piping and fittings for oil, water, compressed air and systems for equipment such as air compressors, pumps and blowers
• Installs new equipment and systems, and repairs and maintains current equipment and systems when needed
• Repairs and overhauls pumps, air compressors and blowers

IMPLEMENTATION OF PLANNED AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

1. Ensures that the preventive maintenance schedule is properly implemented
2. Reviews works in progress; Checks and inspects if necessary for conformance to job and industry specifications
3. Ensures that all plant machinery or mechanical equipment are properly lubricated
4. Tests, operates and performs preventive maintenance on emergency generators, logs results and other applicable information

SUPERVISION AND COORDINATION OF WORK AND ACTIVITIES

1. Supervises and inspects the installation, modification and commissioning of mechanical systems
2. Establishes methods to meet work schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments
3. Assists superiors in the implementation of training programs; Tutors and coaches mechanics on proper job techniques

ENSURING SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE

1. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental protection practices
2. Installs and maintains safety devices to prevent accidents
3. Ensures cleanliness in the work areas
4. Maintains fire prevention and fire fighting equipment

MAINTAINS MAINTENANCE RECORDS

1. Maintains records of machine breakdown and repairs done
2. Submits necessary reports required by the Head Mechanical Engineer
