A PRODUCTION PLANNER creates and manages production schedules, ensuring efficient use of resources, materials, and equipment to meet customer demand and production goals in manufacturing settings. Key duties include analyzing forecasts, optimizing material flow, monitoring inventory, resolving production disruptions, and collaborating with sales, purchasing, and production teams. Success in the role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency with planning software, and knowledge of supply chain and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scheduling & Planning: Develop and maintain production schedules to meet forecasted demand and deadlines, identifying priority products and operations.
  • Material & Inventory Management: Order and manage raw materials, components, and finished goods to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Resource Optimization: Coordinate the use of equipment, facilities, and personnel to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Supply Chain Coordination: Manage the timely movement of materials to and from the production line and ensure smooth logistics.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with sales, customer service, procurement, and production staff to align plans and address needs.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track production progress, analyze delays, monitor costs, and report on production status to management.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve bottlenecks and disruptions in the production process to maintain smooth operations.

Essential Skills

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, forecasts, and performance metrics to make informed planning decisions.
  • Problem-Solving: Aptitude for identifying issues and implementing effective solutions to production problems.
  • Organization & Time Management: Strong ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication to coordinate with various departments and report to management.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skill with production planning software and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree, often in business or a related field
  • Experience: Prior experience in manufacturing, logistics, or a similar role is highly valued. At least 2 years in same position
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the specific industry and manufacturing processes is crucial.
