We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure supporting analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence initiatives. The ideal candidate must be willing to work in an industrial environment, handling data sourced from power plant control systems, data historians, financial systems, and asset management platforms. Prior experience or knowledge in the power generation and energy sector is a strong advantage.


Responsibilities and Duties


Data Processing and Management

  • Identify, collect, transform, and organize data from various sources, including power plant control systems, data historians, financial systems, and enterprise applications.
  • Implement and maintain structured and unstructured data pipelines ensuring data is fit for purpose.
  • Manage data structures, including data transformation, models, schemas, metadata, and workload management.
  • Ensure data quality by establishing data integrity checks, governance frameworks, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Design and implement visualization solutions to enhance data transparency and accessibility.

Data Architecture & Infrastructure Development

  • Lead the selection and development of engineering methods, tools, and techniques for on-premise, hybrid, and cloud-based data solutions.
  • Design, implement, and maintain complex data storage structures for analytics, machine learning, and data mining applications.
  • Ensure adherence to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and relevant security policies for data management.
  • Establish and maintain a data catalog and dictionary to aid data users across the organization.
  • Develop business rules for data security, backups, lifecycle management, and archival processes.

Data Integration & Analytics Enablement

  • Lead the integration, consolidation, curation, migration, and transformation of data, aligning with corporate and regulatory guidelines.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, UX designers, and engineers to integrate algorithms and analytical models into production systems.
  • Collaborate with vendors and domain experts to enhance data processing and analytics capabilities.
  • Generate a technology mapping of existing applications within the Coal Business Unit (BU) plants.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with data professionals and business stakeholders to determine required data sets and analysis tools.
  • Identify process improvements and apply data quality frameworks to ensure reliable data consumption.
  • Conduct ongoing research and best practice implementation to improve data management and analytics processes.
  • Work closely with data governance teams and information stewards to align with company-wide data policies.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably in industrial operations, power generation, or the energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL database design and multiple programming languages, including SQL, Python, R, and Oracle.
  • Experience with ETL tools, data modeling, and pipeline orchestration.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and hybrid data solutions.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with power sector data sources such as SCADA systems, power plant historians, and asset management platforms.
  • Experience working with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
  • Prior exposure to data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
