Description

A building maintenance technician is responsible for the upkeep and repair of a building's structure, systems, and equipment. This includes tasks like fixing plumbing and electrical issues, performing routine maintenance on HVAC systems, and making minor repairs to the building's interior and exterior. They may also be involved in safety checks, maintaining inventories of supplies, and responding to maintenance requests from tenants or supervisors. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnosing and repairing issues with building systems like plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. 
  • Routine Maintenance: Performing tasks like changing light bulbs, fixing door hinges, and addressing minor repairs. 
  • Safety Checks: Ensuring that safety systems like fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are functional. 
  • Inventory Management: Keeping track of cleaning and repair supplies and ordering more as needed. 
  • Responding to Requests: Addressing maintenance requests from tenants or supervisors in a timely manner. 
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize future issues. 
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining records of maintenance and repair work performed. 


Requirements

  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues effectively. 
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform tasks requiring physical labor, including lifting and climbing. 
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring that repairs and maintenance tasks are completed thoroughly. 
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with tenants, supervisors, and other maintenance staff. 
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively.
