Doogue + George Defence Lawyers was founded by one of the current directors of the firm, Bill Doogue, in 1995. Bill was a criminal lawyer at the Aboriginal Legal Service in the early 1990s when he decided to start a firm that specialises in criminal law. The first office was established in Broadmeadows in 1995, followed by another at Melbourne CBD in 2001 and another at Heidelberg in 2008. Since its establishment, Doogue + George has been dealing with a variety of cases – over 47,000 prosecutions and 430 jury trials to date. These include high profile cases such as that of Abdul Nacer Benbrika in the first major terrorism trial in Australia. The firm has acted for a number of politicians including Federal and State members.
